Metal Roof Material

To say that metal roof is made entirely of metal is an understatement. Residential metal roofing is primarily made of steel or aluminum. Copper, zinc and titanium are also used in specialized architectural applications for homes. Since metal roofing first used, much research and development has been put into producing metal roof that are longer lasting, light weight, cost effective and even looks aesthetically pleasing compared to its predecessor.Steel, or galvanized steel to be exact is inexpensive roofing material that is known to last up to 50 years or more with minimal maintenance. It is the most commonly used metal roof material. Steel in itself is not rust free. Manufacturers have improvised conventional steel roofs against rust by zinc coating, a sealant and some heavy-duty paint to protect the material from the elements. To further protect against rust, alloyed steel are used. Different alloys have different properties and can be fabricated to serve different purposes. In addition, steel are galvanized with selected material to increase the insulation against rust.
